Happy Monday, friends! It's 36 Days of Type time! I'm ashamed to say this, but I only know 25 letters of the alphabet. I don't know Y... |
🎉 🎉 🎉 It's Orientation Week! If you've experienced one of our guided sessions before, you know what that means: The learning portal has unlocked, the first batch of lessons are available, your student group has opened, everyone's introducing themselves, and your teaching assistant is standing by to critique your first upload! (BTW, if you forgot to sign up there are still spots available) And, in case you're wondering what all the fuss is about, you can read here about why our courses aren't like other courses, about how companies who are looking to up-skill their teams routinely send artists to School of Motion, and about how we did the opposite of everyone else and lowered our prices 20%. 🎨 Check out our Design curriculum ⚾ Explore our 2D Animation curriculum 🧊 Dive into our 3D courses 💼 Further enhance your career |
🎈 We're Pretty Pumped Up on Cinema 4D's New Updates! In case you missed it, Maxon announced a slew of new updates to Maxon One - but we're the most pumped on the newest features added to Cinema 4D and Redshift (like Redshift Flake Shader and the Thicken Generator). Add to that list of super useful new additions is the ability to use Vertex Maps to control Balloon inflation simulations - allowing for a lot of cool possibilities! Check out our recent tutorial to learn more! Balloon text, anyone? 🏫 The Future of Online Training? One of the major barriers to sharing knowledge is the language barrier. Take all our courses at School of Motion for example (no, seriously - take them all registration is open for just 24 more hours!) - it's impossible for us to record every single one of our courses in all the languages of the world. But this demo from Mike Seymour of FXPHD fame demonstrates how AI will allow you to record one video in one language and you can translate it to literally any other language - with the same instructor and the instructors voice! There's a lot of icky stuff surrounding AI, but making education accessible to the world - that's something to look forward to! 🧸 (Motion) Designer Toys? It can be ruff to call yourself a motion designer without a collection of vinyl toys or plushies on your desk or shelf. If your shelf is looking lonely and you want to add a plushie made by a motion designer FOR motion designers, look no further than this plushie from our very own EJ Hassenfratz! This plushie was lovingly made in honor of his best bud and design assistant, Gus the pug! (Also f you ever wondered what that snorting was during EJ's tutorials - it was only sometimes him, but mostly Gus.) Adopt one today and you can have all the fun of owning a real pug without the snorting and constant shedding! 🌌 Create HDRI's With the Power of AI! What if you could create any type of HDRI or skybox using the power of AI? That's exactly the promise of Skybox Lab that allows you to generate 360° skybox experiences from text prompts. It's already well known you can generate 3D textures using AI, so this is yet another AI tool in a motion designers toolbox to generate any type of asset you could need for your projects! |
🎨 Reverse Engineer Midjourney Prompts with "Describe" Command In the aftermath of Midjourney busting onto the scene, countless "Prompt Crafting Services" companies popped up with the soul purpose of helping people craft prompts to get the best results out of MJ. That idea is now blown up as MJ added it's "Describe" command where you can upload any image and MJ will give you a prompt based on the image. We even tried this with our own design we made for Spring Registration (image above) and it, well was mind-blowing. 👀 Monday Meeting is BACK! After a 532 day hiatus, everyone's favorite weekly virtual gathering is back! Join them every Monday at 10am EST at MondayMeeting.org where you can join motion designers, animators, and visual effects artists to discuss the latest industry trends, share experiences and learn from one another. We're excited MM is coming back - although there's not much going on in the industry these days....dunno what they'll talk about... 🔫 NeRFs Are Coming to Unreal Engine Even as adults we loved playing with NERF - but instead of the choking hazard filled fake firearm, we're talking about the new tech from LumaAI that allows you to create incredibly detailed 3D scans using NeRF tech. It was just announced that Luma is alpha releasing an Unreal Engine plug-in that will allow you to use these 3D scans in real time! Will we ever see NeRF in C4D? N3RF4D? 🏛️ A Museum for Stop Motion And finally, we have some pretty cool news about some stop motion folks in Portland, OR (where Laika is located) that are trying to create a stop motion museum! They're asking people to join the mailing list to get more info and (likely) donate soon. Check out their vision and learn how you can support their project on their website. |
